Event Details

On Saturday 19thJanuary Memory Box returns to its very first home - Corsica Studios. On this cold January night, the Memory Box dance floor in Room 1 will heat up with the warmth and love for a true legend of house music, the one and only Kevin Saunderson.  While for some, no introduction is needed, there’s in fact a lot to be said about Kevin Saunderson: platinum-selling recording artist, label boss, festival promoter, true innovator in the pantheon of popular music, cultural champion, brilliant DJ. His influence runs deep, through both adopted hometown of Detroit, and music culture as a whole: as one of the Belleville Three, the high school trio which also includes Juan Atkins and Derrick May, he irrevocably changed the face of electronic music; with Inner City, he gave it some of its most memorable tunes.

While in Room 2 another kind of heat will be rising as Memory Box welcomes Renaat Vandepapeliere - the Boss, A&R and Factotum of the all-mighty Techno label R&S Records.  His career spans over almost 4 decades in which his visionary soul gave some of the most prolific and forward-thinking artists of the electronic music scene a platform to express themselves, artists such as Derrick May, Juan Atkins ‘Model 500’ and Aphex Twin. Today, Nicolas Jaar, James Blake, Paula Temple, Benjamin Damage, Talaboman, Lost Souls of Saturn and Mariel Ito all walk in the glorious heritage of R&S.  Renaat and his label have earned him the title of being an uncompromising pioneer, and although his role as boss and A&R of the label is very time consuming, Renaat is a remarkable selector who truly enjoys taking risks beyond trends.

Back in Room 1, joining Kevin Saunderson and Memory Box host Robin Ball, will be Brassica playing live.  Brassica’s music distils a storied musical past; capturing Balearic house, real electro, Italo disco, new wave, psych, synth music, techno and rave nostalgia, without sounding consigned to any particular part of it.  Brassica’s highly sought early releases on Dissident and his DJ Mag Album of the Year nominated LP “Man Is Deaf” on Civil Music have developed in recent years to more acid, breaks and balmy house on his EP for Feel My Bicep.

So do please join us for the first Memory Box party of the new year where you’ll be sure to feel your cockles have been well warmed, your soul defrosted and your spirits lifted.
